Most people who like the outdoors also like to fish. Brewster Massachusetts has a lot to offer all levels of fishermen. With over 360 freshwater ponds, Brewster introduces folks to the greatest fishing Cape Cod can offer. The three most popular areas attracting folks from near and far are Baker Pond, Sheeps Pond, and Nickerson State Park.

The four ponds in the Nickerson State Park are stocked with trout every fall and spring. The park stays open twelve months a year. The ponds are stocked with state raised fish and include tiger trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout. Every so often folks will catch yellow perch and large and small mouth bass. It is important to note that the roads may not get plowed consistently in the snowy month, so be prepared when planning your trip.

The next highly recommended pond is Bakers Pond. Situated off Bakers Pond Road, access to this pond is limited as well as parking. Trolling in a kayak or small boat is the best option for catching fish in this pond. This pond is also stocked every year with largemouth bass. The best time to fish this pond is in late fall or early spring.

Finally, Sheeps Pond located in Brewster features a striking boat ramp and plenty of parking. Gas powered motors on the pond are limited to 3 horsepower. This is a terrific spot for slow trolling for a variety of species of fish. Because the water is so clear you can see down ten feet. During the summer this spot can get pretty busy so you will do well to get started early.

Three kinds of bait are recommended for freshwater pond fish. The three types of bait include night crawlers, power bait, and shiners. You can use bobbers with the shiners to help keep the bait in the spot where fish will strike. Power bait is dough like and soft and floats on the top of the pond. It is used for catching trout. Night crawlers are also used to catch trout and usually injected with some air to make them float.

Because trout tend not to get spooked when the light is low, before the sun comes up or after it goes down is the best time to fish. In low light trout swim close to the shoreline looking for an easy meal. The human benefit is that this part of the day is a very quiet time and great for relaxing.

If you fish for brown trout, keep in mind that they tend to feed at night. During the summer when the temperatures are warm, trout move to the deeper waters. Use a kayak or small boat to go out to the deeper parts of the pond to increase your chance of reeling them in.

There are many more ponds you can visit in this state. The three mentioned here are among the most popular. It is worth checking out all the other areas to fish. The avid fisherman will not soon run out of great places to cast a line. So when you decide to plan your next trip take a look at Massachusetts.
