About The Wetsuit Cleaner And Conditioner

by Patrick Smith

Wetsuits are quite expensive and deserve special attention. Don't think that it is enough just to rinse the salt off and your job is done. Just remember how many different things touch your suit, and the suit touches your body. Clean water simply cannot remove all the sand, urine and salt, you have to do something about this. You might consider buying a good wetsuit cleaner and conditioner.

The material your diving suit is made of is called neoprene. It is really sensitive to higher temperatures, and this is one of the reasons why it cannot be washed in your wash machine. For the same reason it cannot be dried in your dryer as well. So, you have to use a good cleaner and conditioner and wash it manually, in the tub, for example. Even so, you have to do it really gently.

After washing it, you need to rinse it and to leave it hanging over some bar or something for a while. Prepare a large towel, place it somewhere far away from any heat source, inside the house, and place a suit on the towel to dry completely. Now you can fold it and storage it in some plastic bag. Place this bag somewhere where it won't be exposed to sun or heat.

On some areas on your wetsuit there will be wax that should be occasionally removed. Such areas are your knees, hips and elbows, for example. Although diving suits should never be ironed, your iron can be quite useful in this case. Of course, steam irons are excluded. Prepare some old towel as well.

Adjust the iron temperature on very low, for example silk or maybe nylon. Spread the rug or a towel on the area where there is a wax that should be removed. Gently move your iron over these areas. The wax will be transferred on a rug or a towel. Make sure not to touch zips or rubber seals, because your iron might cause damages to these parts.

When it comes to unpleasant odors, diving suits are quite yak. Urine and sweat, among other unpleasant things, leave their smell in the neoprene, and are quite hard to remove. Specially designed products will remove those ugly smells really efficiently. And this will make your diving suits not only more comfortable, but also better smelling.

The loss of elasticity affects more than your comfort. It affects the longevity of your suit as well. If it loses its elasticity, it will be much easier to rip it or to stretch it. That's why it is advisable to use a good conditioner, or a cleaner combined with conditioner. Higher temperatures are really bad for your diving equipment, and you need to keep it somewhere protected.

When you consider the price of a new wetsuit, and its longevity, buying a good cleaner and conditioner seems like a very good idea. This small investment will save you a great deal of money, but you will also get some other great advantages. You will feel far more comfortable, not to mention the fact that you will also smell so much better. Well, think about it if you really need to.
