What is sportsmanship and team work, for most who know these two words very well they would say that teamwork is the key to success and sportsmanship is the path to take for a much more dignified and even competition. For one to do pursue a career in sports one must be skilful, motivated, and must uphold the principles of sportsmanship. In a group sport, one would near more than just skill to win, one would need to build up a strong bond that becomes the foundation of a great team.
However, competing with others will never be fun if your goal is to boast your ego and play on your own terms leaving your team behind. A team is built for a reason that each one serves a great purpose that will lead the entire team not just you, to a well earned victory.
And if you enter a tournament with your team but all you are thinking about is self validation, to be known as the best of the best than maybe you should try sports that does not need a team. After all if your only thinking about winning on your own then it almost seems like you are only bringing along your team as an ornament, will not get you anywhere.
But even for those who were not able to get the overall price, most of them still feel honored just to be part of the tournament, and because they did their best and play well with their teams, they have no regrets. All they feel is that burning passion to keep again the next time the tournament opens and the next time around they will be able to win those trophies and the overall price for their team.
One could not simply rely on skills in situations like you are being surrounded by opponent players, such as in basketball, if the opponent sense that you as the main player in your team because of your skill that you have showed, then their strategy will be to surround to minimize your movements as much as possible.
And crowd your space, so you would lose focus, you have team mates near you, but you are hesitant to pass the ball to them because you want the recognition and take glory all to yourself. And with that kind of mentality you will surely be the reason why your team will lose.
There are some athletes these days that has a bad case of athletic ego, they usually get this kind of ego, when they start to think that they are just better than everyone else in the team. And with that kind of mentality one could never succeed especially when they are facing an opponent who believes and depends on each others skills.
And most of the time when facing defeat these athletes who do not have a sense of sportsmanship would result to violence and would cause a negative commotion. Which is not the way a professional athlete should act. Because to be an athlete means to be both skillful and dignified.
