by Dorothy Thompson
One of the new sports that has attracted a lot of people seeking fun and thrill is kite surfing. Many people consider it to be fun and spectacular as it is a combination of windsurfing, sailing using a kite. Many places with shallow waters are ideal for kitesurf as a sport as long as there are few obstacles for the kites and the wind is ever-present
The gear used in kite surfing is usually portable and this allows the surfer to enjoy the sport in a wide range of winds. It is always advisable for beginners to learn using low winds as the winds are gentler. It is not always easy to identify the dangers of kite surfing especially when you are watching kite surfers from the shore. It can be a dangerous sport if the wind is strong with a lot of power controlling the kite.
Before you can rent or buy the kite surfing equipment, you need to have some basic certificate showing that you know how to surf. Most of the shops will not allow you to rent or buy anything related to kite surfing without providing this certification. They consider the risks too high for this extreme sport.
The sport is highly rewarding and risky at the same time. Thrill seekers understand this and they always respect the ocean or the waters as they have fun. Safety is always a priority for them before they can have fun. If you are one the people who can take risks and would like to ride on waves on beautiful beaches, you should consider learning the sport.
Before you can begin your kite surfing techniques, most trainers will advise you to get some kite steering training. This allows you to understand the physics of the kite. Thereafter the training on kite surfing can be easier and reduce the training time. Basically, the training time will depend on your kiting skills but on average it should take you about 4 hours to master the skills needed and get certified.
The sport is associated with the freedom to express yourself as you follow the wind while riding the waves. It is important to respect the environment especially the wind and the waters as you jump and skim the waves. The freestyle technique that is the most enjoyed technique allows you to freely express yourself and try out spectacular and complex moves.
In many of the competitions that are held all over the world, competitors are judged by the skills they showcase in front of a group of judges. The freestyle category attracts many competitors who battle it out for the final spot. In the competition, each is given a limited time frame to showcase their moves within the limited area.
Part of the judging criteria checks on the height that the competitors reach as they surf. Points are awarded to competitors who gain maximum height to perform a stunt and impress the judges. The judges also look into the technical difficulty of some of the stunts carried out, the creativity and innovation of the competitors as well as the risk taken. Higher points are awarded to the surfers who show a variety of moves and styles with a lot of power in execution and amplitude.
